There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino wagering is banned. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling den, contains 150 slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel building that highlights numerous conveniences aside from the gambling den, which has 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
