There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino wagering is not permitted. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect spot, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 1700, and although visas are allegedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling hall, contains 150 slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that highlights many amenities aside from the casino, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and 88 table games.
