There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den gaming is not permitted. Eight casinos are established in a generally small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of many borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that highlights many amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
