Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English | Deutsch | Español | Français | Italiano ]

There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino betting is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel building that highlights a number of conveniences accompanying the casino, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight tables.
